FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is does it cost?

Initially we will have an informal telephone consultation for you to tell me what you need from counselling. Of course this is free.

If you felt that counselling might be useful to you, we would then have an initial assesment session. This is where we meet each other to talk in more detail and to see if it feels right for us to work together. This would also be free of charge.

After this the charges for counselling sessions are on a sliding scale from £20 to £45 depending on what you feel you can afford.

How long does it take?

The sessions last for an hour.
The number of sessions you need cannot be identified here, it depends on what you are bringing to counselling and what you want to get from it. We would talk about this when we met and agree a plan.
We would have regular reviews where we would look at how things were going and make sure you felt it was working for you.
You can finish the counselling whenever you want, but it is usually best to build in a short ending process.

Is the counselling confidential?

Yes. Nobody except my supervisor will know that you are seeing me. I will talk to my supervisor about our work, but she is bound by the same confidentiality contract that I am. Only she will know what we talk about unless you tell me that you or someone else is at risk of serious harm. In that case, I might need to talk to a G.P or another professional. I would always talk to you about this before hand.
Like all counsellors, I am required by law to give evidence in court if I am ordered to.

Where is it?

I use therapy rooms in Stonehouse, Stroud and Nailsworth in Gloucestershire. I am within easy distance from the train line from Gloucester or Cheltenham, Stroud, Kemble and Swindon.
